Our first night in Guatemala was spent at the Lutheran Center in Antigua. It is a lovely and relaxing setting, enhanced by the most gracious of hosts... Mrs. Nury de Milan, whose warm welcome makes you wish you could stay much longer! We left the next morning for San Marcos.

The women of Santiago Zamora are known for the quality of their weaving. They bring their handiwork to the Lutheran Center in hopes of a sale... prices are very reasonable and you can even custom order!

Our home for the week was pretty cushy... excellent host, great food, warm showers... much more than we expected and much appreciated. Starting each day refreshed contributes in so many ways to a successful outreach event.

San Marcos is between 7000 and 8000 above sea level. Although it was late July, the evening temps dipped into the 40's and daytime temps were in the low to mid 70's. Oh yeah... no bugs!

This buiding, within the church compound at San Marcos, was an excellent facility in which to hold a medical clinic. It was secure, so we didn''t have to be concerned regarding theft of medications... which means we didn't have to re-construct the pharmacy each day... a major advantage and time saver!

The Church property was enclosed by a fence that allowed us to control the number of patients in the registration line. This avoided a lot of confusion.

Our clinic pharmacy usually supports 4 or 5 medical stations. Consequently, it is a very busy place, even to the point that at times the flow of patients must be slowed to enable us to deal with the back-log. Too many prescriptions waiting to be filled or picked up leads to confusion and perhaps errors. On this trip, the bulk of the meds were stored accross the hallway in another room (where team members pre-package common dosages) and the area you see here was used to fill prescriptions.
